Evaluation of Serum Osteocalcin in Elderly Patients with Type-2 Diabetes Mellitus

چکیده
Osteocalcin, the second most abundant protein in bone tissue after collagen, is secreted by osteoblasts and thought to participate in mineralization and calcium ion homeostasis. In addition to its use as biomarker in ostoporosis, experimental studies on mice published in Cell journal revealed for osteocalcin new metabolic functions, as hormone, being involved in blood glucose regulation, in insulin secretion, and in adipose tissue shaping. The aim of this study, conducted on 85 elderly patients (21 males and 64 females, aged 63-78 years) was to examine the relationship between serum osteocalcin concentration and classical biomarkers of investigation for glucose and lipid metabolism, using data from a clinical evaluation in elderly patients with impaired glucose tolerance and type-2 diabetes mellitus.

Comparison of Serum Level and IL-18 Gene Expression and Reactive Protein in Patients with Type 2 Diabetes with Metabolic Syndrome and Healthy People
Introduction: Metabolic syndrome is a common clinical anomaly, with an increased risk of developing type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular risk factors. Increased inflammatory mediators, such as reactive protein,as well as the inflammatory cytokines can be associated with the incidence and progression of metaboli syndrome and type 2 diabetes. Materials & Methods: This study was performed on 35 m...

Background: Diabetes mellitus, which is associated with elevated blood glucose, lipids and liver enzymes, may results in alterations in the production of inflammatory cytokines, including chitinase-3-like protein 1 (YKL-40) and high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP), which induce and promote complications of diabetes such as atherosclerosis. The aim of this study was to evaluate the serum ...

Background Type one diabetes mellitus (Type 1 DM) is the most common type of diabetes in children and adolescents, arising through a complex interaction of immune, genetic and environmental factors. Autoimmune thyroid disease is the most frequent disorder associated with Type one diabetes mellitus. This study aimed to evaluate incidence of autoimmune thyroid disease in children and adolescents ...
متن کاملAssociation between Serum Ferritin and Osteocalcin as a Potential Mechanism Explaining the Iron-Induced Insulin Resistance
BACKGROUND Increased iron stores are associated with increased risk of type 2 diabetes, however, the mechanisms underlying these associations are poorly understood. Because a reduction of circulating osteocalcin levels after iron overload have been demonstrated in cell cultures, and osteocalcin is related to glucose and insulin metabolism, the iron-induced osteocalcin reductions could contribut...

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the relationship between serum level of testosterone and sex hormone-binding globulin in men with type 2 diabetes. MATERIALS AND METHODS: In this case-control study, forty men aged 40-70 with type 2 diabetes mellitus were randomly selected and compared with 40 non-diabetic men. The two groups were matched for their age and BMI. After complete observation and examination...
